/Vuonna 2006 tsunamista ja 30-vuotisesta sisällissodasta toipuva Aceh valmistautui ensimmäistä kertaa paikallisvaalien järjestämiseen. Tukea demokratiakehitykselle konfliktinjälkeisessä tilanteessa se sai muun muassa Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) -järjestöltä, jonka vaalitarkkailutyötä tuki suomalainen Kansalaisjärjestöjen ihmisoikeussäätiö KIOS.

Hallitus valmistautuu antamaan eduskunnalle selonteon, joka linjaa ainakin tämän hallituskauden turvallisuus- ja puolustuspolitiikan suuret linjat. Ainakin sen pitäisi tehdä niin. Puolustuvoimien puolelta toiveita on esitetty muun muassa amiraali Kaskealan suulla, että selonteolta odotetaan selkeitä linjauksia puolustuksen suhteen ainakin vuoteen 2020 asti.
