Etiopian Ogadenin maakunnassa ihmisoikeusloukkaukset ovat arkipäivää. Hallituksen ja kapinallisten välisessä konfliktissa kärsivät erityisesti siviilit. Kansainvälinen yhteisö vaikenee tilanteesta, jota järjestöt kuvaavat humanitaariseksi kriisiksi. Suomen Ogaden-aktiivit vaativat ihmisoikeusloukkauksien välitöntä lopettamista ja keskustelua unohdetusta alueesta.

Lukutaito on muutakin kuin kyky kirjoittaa ja lukea. Suomen Pakolaisavun lukutaitohanke sisällissodasta toipuvassa Sierra Leonessa tähtää käytännön luku- ja kirjoitustaitojen opetuksen lisäksi yhteisöjen voimaantumiseen ja rauhan vahvistamiseen. Lukutaitoryhmissä kylvetään yhteiskuntarauhan siemeniä, yhteisön sisältä käsin.
